Towerstream Wins Best of WiMAX World 2008 Award for its New York City Network

MIDDLETOWN, R.I., Oct 06, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Company honored by xchange magazine in Service Provider Deployment category

Towerstream (Nasdaq: TWER), a leading fixed WiMAX service provider, today announced it has received the Best of WiMAX World Award for its New York City network in the Service Provider Deployment category, from xchange magazine. Towerstream's New York City network has been honored for its innovation, speed, bandwidth and reliability.

The annual awards recognize leaders in the development and deployment of WiMAX technologies. Nominations were open to exhibitors, sponsors and speakers of WiMAX World USA Conference and Expo, Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 in Chicago, and selected by a judging panel of experts from the WiMAX community.

In April 2008, Towerstream began powering one of New York City's landmark skyscrapers with building-wide access to its high-speed, wireless broadband solution. The 50-story building, which extends a full city block, also serves as Towerstream's sixth point-of-presence (PoP) in its New York City wireless broadband network, extending broadband coverage to much of Manhattan's north side. The addition of in-building service to its model enabled Towerstream to strategically expand its customer base in the city, particularly in densely populated business centers.

"Towerstream's recognition by xchange for these prestigious awards is a tremendous validation of our technology and of our proven business model," said Jeff Thompson, Towerstream's President and CEO. "We consider New York City to be our flagship network, where we have been able to prove our model and replicate it in other markets across the country. In the future, we will continue to bring our customers in New York City and all of our markets the high-quality, fast and reliable wireless broadband service."

Towerstream received the Best of WiMAX World Service Provider Deployment award on Oct. 1 at a ceremony following the close of the WiMAX World exhibition floor. Awards were presented to recipients in six categories. Towerstream and their award will be featured in the December issue of xchange, as well as on the WiMAX World and xchange Web sites.

"xchange is pleased to honor Towerstream's contributions to the development and promotion of WiMAX technology and services," said Mike Saxby, group publisher of xchange. "The growth in the industry has been tremendous, as shown by Towerstream's achievement."

"On behalf of WiMAX World, I congratulate Towerstream for winning this year's WiMAX World USA Award in Service Provider Deployment," added Eliot Weinman, conference founder and co-chair, and president of Trendsmedia. "WiMAX World Awards winners truly represent the best and the brightest WiMAX technology, services and network implementations in the world."

The WiMAX award winners were selected by an independent judging panel that consisted of Craig Mathias, principal, Farpoint Group; Will Strauss, principal analyst, Forward Concepts; Adlane Fellah, CEO and founder, Maravedis Inc.; Caroline Gabriel, lead research analyst, Rethink Research; Philip Marshall, vice president of enabling technologies,Yankee Group; and representatives from xchange and Trendsmedia.
